Timber manufacturers have refuted reports in a section of the media that they are contributing to the destruction of various forests in the country.
Addressing media in Nakuru on Tuesday led by the national chair Timber Manufacturers Association Mr. Bernard Gitau, they urged the media to get their facts right.
“We want to condemn the reports in a section of the media that we are contributing to the destruction of forest cover. We must say those are baseless and fact less, as manufacturers we are closely working with Kenya Forestry in ensuring forestry cover,” he said.
“We are in charge of various tree nurseries spread across the nation and we are in the process of ensuring that we plant more trees to compensate the ones that were harvested,” he said.
His sentiments were echoed by Patrick Malel from Kericho Branch, Stephen Arap Chepkwony representing the disabled in the association and Zachayo Maina a saw miller from Nakuru county.
“We are all working closely with the Kenya Forestry to ensure that there is more forest cover in various parts of the country,”they said.
