The campaign periods are already here with us again, barely four years after 2013 highly contested elections.

The politicians have already started crisscrossing the country in hunt for votes while the artists are silently watching from a distance.

When elections will turn bloody (God forbid), artists will rise up with sad songs meant to comfort the victims of violence like what happened during the 2007/2008 elections.

Instead of waiting for the worst to happen before we start composing sad songs, why can't artists compose songs that glorify peace now before we go for elections?

Artists, just like politicians, usually have huge fans. An artist like Ken Wa Maria, for example, enjoys a huge fanbase in Ukambani.

If he decides to be creative enough to compose songs that preach about peace, how many people will listen to him? What of Erick Wainaina and Tony Nyandundo?

The time for artists' contribution to avert election violence is now (during campaigns) and not after elections.
