For several years now, Nakuru has experienced and increasing number of young people who want to venture into comedy, with some already venturing in this art.
Most of those who come on board are those who choose to imitate leaders who are in power or those who were in power, with the most famous leaders who are used in this category being former presidents Daniel Moi and Mwai Kibaki, and Cord leader Raila Odinga, among others.
It is time that Nakuru comedians sought more creative ways to entertain their audiences through comedy as opposed to imitating these leaders as this field has already been ventured in and exaggerated to the point that some Nakuru residents have come to see it as boring.
Let’s just say this type of style has become too old.
They other type of comedy that has been widely ventured by comedians, both in Nakuru and Kenya alike is imitating how various communities speak which at most times is exaggerated and may at times be boring.
Others who may not have control due to mother tongue influence may term the joke as one that was done in bad taste.
Nakuru comedians are now encouraged to come up with their own style just as Professor Hamo, who is now a household name.
His comedy is what is termed as fresh and each episode is one to look forward to when it comes to him.
I do understand that it is hard to make people laugh but comedy is not part and parcel of you; you may end up being an embarrassment to yourself once you perform before a crowd.
Some of the mean young people in Nakuru may even end up booing you, an act that may lead one to low self esteem.
For some comedians, jokes come naturally whereas for others, much research is required.
However, it is imperative for a Nakuru comedian to bring fresh material to his/her audience to ensure that they stay entertained.
Just like any other art, comedy is one that needs to be natured because as they say, you are only as good as your last performance.
