Presidential hopeful Kennedy Okong‘o Mong‘are is optimistic of defeating President Uhuru Kenyatta and Cord leader Raila Odinga in August general election.Mong‘are, who is the Nyamira Senator, said his bid will bring to an end a 50-year political rivalry involving the Kenyatta and Jaramogi dynasties. “We cannot have only two families dominating our country’s leadership. I believe this trend will come to an end very soon after I shall have dealt with Uhuru and Raila squarely in the elections,” said Mong'are as quoted by the Standard. The Senator launched his presidential bid last month and is expected to battle for the top seat with the incumbent President Kenyatta and other opposition candidates.Uhuru is the son of Kenya‘s founding President, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta while his formidable rival, Raila, is the son of Kenya‘s first vice president and doyen of opposition politics Jaramogi Oginga Odinga. Mong'are made the remarks during a special ceremony at his Sironga home where he was blessed by community elders to run for president. He said he is the ideal candidate to liberate the country from poverty, corruption, and tribalism and urged Kenyans to support his bid.
