The ongoing Turkana oil explorations will start earning some coins for the country as early June this year.
The project which had been expected to be effective at the beginning of the year had been delayed due to a misunderstanding between the national government, county government, and the locals on revenue from the exploration.
Speaking in Eldoret town on Thursday, the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) Director General Robert Oimeke assured the public that the project will start rolling down following the recent agreement between the parties that were disagreeing.
"I wish to assure you that by June this year, we will start earning some dollars from the Turkana oil," said Oimeke.
As the entire country is excited about the project, the ERC Director General expressed his hopes that major exportation will begin latest in the year 2027 if all goes well as planned.
"The export business may start in around 2027 where Kenya can start enjoying exporting the oil," he said.
Oimeke further said the commission will be advising the government not subside oil when that time comes but let people pay the real cost of energy production.
"If the government subsidies the cost, it may find itself in problems when the production reduces, he said.
