The initial 10 to 10 rule which states that students should not be found in the hostel of the opposite sex between 10 pm and 10 am had begun fading away.

"It has come to our attention that some students do not observe 10 am to 10 pm rule in the hostels as indicated in the rules and regulations governing the conduct of students," the memo read.

A theft case on Wednesday afternoon at the ladies' hostel L where a phone was stolen from a lady's room is what awakened the strictness on the rule in Clause 4.1 b of Moi University Constitution.

As a result, insecurity is increasing in the hostels and a number of students are losing their phones, laptops and other property.

The rule is however usually strict on male students who are found in the ladies' hostel. A student who is found on the wrong side of the 10 p.m to 10 a.m rule will be punished.

"This is to remind all students that disciplinary action will be taken against a student found in the hostel of the opposite gender before 10 am a and beyond 10 pm," the memo warned.

The students have however raised mixed reactions with some not agreeing with the school's latest security move.
