This was in 2009, when 'Baba' was the Prime minister and Mwai Kibaki as the president.

Raila Odinga was blamed for the maize shortage in the country following his cancellation of a maize tender.

This action was suspiciously linked to corruption by some government servants and MPs from the opposite side - PNU party.

However, Raila denied that the cancellation of the tender would not have such an immediate impact.

"That tender was not viable at that time. Furthermore, even if it were approved, it could have no immediate impact on the raging food crisis at the moment." Raila defended himself from the allegations.

Additionally, Raila excused himself from the cause by citing port problems that needed to be addressed first. Some PNU coalition Members of Parliament had blamed the food crisis on Raila, with claims that his decision to cancel the tender was suspect.

Besides, Raila Odinga dismissed any claims connecting him to corruption and said that the suspects should be arrested, prosecuted and jailed.

"It is important that we move a notch higher, into arresting, prosecuting and jailing the suspects of mushrooming corruption syndicates in our country," Raila said.
