Stephen Kimotho, a financial expert in Kiambu observes that most bodaboda operators are not willing to join Saccos.

Speaking to this writer on Tuesday at Kiambu town, Mr Kimotho observed that most operators fear joining Saccos over safety of their savings.

Mr Kimotho said that joining Saccos will guarantee success for operators as they will be able to access soft loans to advance their businesses.

“Bodaboda operators should form and join Saccos where they can get soft loans and financial advice on their businesses,” said Mr Kimotho.

The financial expert noted that the boda boda sector is rapidly growing and has also employed many youths who need financial advice.

“This people (boda boda operators) are making good money but most of them lack financial management skills which is crucial in their business,” he said.

Mr Kimotho urged the county government to sponsor the operators for financial courses noting that the courses will empower them on financial management.

The financial expert also urged the operators to invest their money in other projects stating that it will help them improve their economic standards.

The bodaboda sector in Kiambu has expanded rapidly with youth’s venturing into the trade.

Last week, County Youth Minister Michael Waikenda said that the government will sponsor operators on various curses including first aid, road safety and insurance.

Waikenda said the county government had partnered with agencies like the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to train bodaboda riders.
