A section of bodaboda operators in Kirigiti Estate in Ting’ang’a Ward have asked the police to intensify security patrols and deal with criminals allegedly targeting them.
The operators claim that a gang operating in the area is targeting their business.
Speaking on Sunday, they claimed that their security is not guaranteed.
According to the bodaboda operators, a gang is freely operating in the area and targets riders and taxi operators.
Martin Aluvara, a bodaboda operator in the estate said that several cases of operators being attacked by unknown people have been reported in the last two weeks.
Aluvara alleged that a bodaboda operator was on Friday night attacked and robbed by unknown people in the estate.
He said that most bodaboda operators have been forced to abandon the business for fear of attacks.
Jeremiah Kaloki, another bodaboda rider in the area said that crime is on the rise.
“The gang seems to be targeting bodaboda riders and has forced many of us to quit the business,” he alleged.
The bodaboda riders want their MCA, Lawrence Mwaura, to intervene over the alleged rising insecurity cases.
Speaking to journalists on Sunday, Kiambu OCPD Stephen Ng’etich said that investigations have been launched into the claims.
Nge’tich asked bodaboda operators across Kiambu to partner with the police saying that it will help in eliminating criminals.
The OCPD said that security will be streamlined warning criminals will be hunted to their hideouts.
The Kiambu OCPD also said that police have devised new measures aimed at fighting crime especially this festive season.
