The protests are to have the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) disbanded.

According to the elders, the move by the police to use force on protesters was unnecessary.

Joseph Njuguna said that police were not justified to use excessive force on protesters.

“The police should not have used excessive force in dispersing the protesters,” he said on Monday.

He observed that images captured on camera where police were caught beating up some protesters paints the force negatively.

“Police have no right to beat protesters they should have used minimal force in dispersing them,” he added.

John Kimeu, another elder condemned the protests that turned chaotic adding that it is time the government listened to the opposition.

“We cannot continue like this it is time both leaders in opposition and government sat down and addressed the issues of IEBC,” he said.

Several people were injured in the protests with some shops being looted in the CBD.

There are also claims that police used live bullets to disperse the protester but the police have refuted them.
