Moiben Member of Parliament Silas Tiren now says the 2022 presidential race is open for any willing candidate.
The Jubilee MP has further said the race should not be limited to only a few individuals.
Addressing the press in Eldoret town on Monday, the two-term legislator noted that everybody should be allowed to express interest for the country’s top seat and allow Kenyans to make a choice of who they want to be their next president.
“Mimi nasema kiwanja ya 2022 iwe open kwa kila mtu halafu wakeya waamue wenyewe. Hatutaki kuanza kuambiwa eti ni lazima watu Fulani pekee wasimame kwa hiyo kiti,” said Tiren loosely translated to “The race for 2022 Presidency should be open so that Kenyans are allowed to pick their favorite candidate. We don’t want to be told that only so and so must be the ones going for the seat.”
These sentiments are likely to cause jitters among the staunch supporters of Deputy President Willam Ruto given the fact that Tiren is a Jubilee MP from the DP’s backyard, Uasin Gishu.
The 2022 presidential race has threatened to split the Rift Valley with the possibility of DP Ruto facing off with Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, son of retired President Daniel Moi.
Political analysts believe Ruto is a pole position to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta but also accept the fact that Senator Moi's candidacy might complicate the DP’s chances.
