The battle for Kangundo parliamentary seat in next year’s general election is gaining intense momentum by the day, following the huge number of high profile aspirants eying the seat.
Titus Nzeki alias Kavila, a 43-year old Master of Science graduate from Kenyatta University who almost clinched the seat in the last general election but lost narrowly to Kyengo Katatha Maweu, is planning a comeback bid that has galvanized a broad base of his supporters.
In the 2013 election, Mr Kavila, who was the Wiper Party nominee, came second to the incumbent, who got elected through a TIP ticket. The youthful politician, who has business interests in transport and real estate, has been mobilizing his campaign team ahead of the ‘great battle’ in which he has vowed to send all his opponents packing.
He told the Hivisasa reporter that he is firmly in the race to represent Kangundo in the National Assembly, and disclosed he will seek the voters’ mandate through the newly launched Maendeleo Chap Chap Party which is associated with Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua.
“I will be unveiling my campaign manifesto to the people of Kangundo early next year and I am confident this time around they will give me the opportunity to work with them,” said the professional teacher, who promised that once elected MP he would embark on efforts to revive education standards in the constituency, which he says have deteriorated over the years.
“I am deeply concerned about the dwindling education standards in Kangundo and my vision is to work with all stakeholders in order to safeguard the future of our young generation by strengthening the human resource potential of this region,” he said.
The aspirant will face off with the incumbent Katatha, businessman Athanas Ndolo, lawyer Fabian Kyule, former banker Rose Wambua as well as Musembi Mulungye among others.
He becomes the first ever parliamentary aspirant to declare Maendeleo Chap Chap his party of choice since the unveiling of the party recently at the Bomas of Kenya in Nairobi.
“The reason I subscribed to Maendeleo Chap Chap philosophy is because it is a movement that concerns itself with the commitment to roll back poverty and empower people through faster and more efficient delivery of services to the citizens,” he says.
Mr Kavila claims he is so far the most experienced politician among all the aspirants and has pledged to unite Kangundo residents and offer a fresh style of political, social and economic leadership.
