The National Alliance (TNA) Nakuru County chairman Abdul Noor has said the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) should be neutral in its dispensation of duties to foster peace and national stability.

Speaking to the press on Wednesday at Nakuru Town, Noor urged the electoral body to include views and recommendations of the opposition to avoid political upheaval ahead of 2017 General Election.

“The IEBC has a role to dispense its duties in a nonpartisan manner. This will ensure violent political confrontations do not occur,” he said.

He noted that lack of credibility by electoral bodies had plunged many African states into civil strife saying that this scenario should never occur in Kenya .

“IEBC should ensure that elections are credible, transparent, free and fair. It should be committed to upholding national values and principles of good governance and democracy,” said Noor.

Noor's remarks comes at a time when Cord leaders have expressed concern over credibility of IEBC saying that they would boycott the 2017 General Elections unless the electoral body is structured and remains nondiscriminatory .

Noor also said that there is need for IEBC to promote integrity within its operations so that public can have confidence in it.

“IEBC should be involved in delimitation of electoral units, registration of voters, regulation of political parties, voter education, settling of electoral disputes and modernisation and reforming of electoral processes and systems,” he added.
