Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Keriako Tobiko has said vandalizing the Standard Gauge Railway amounts to a capital offense.

According to Tobiko, identified culprits will be charged with sabotaging the country’s economy.

Tobiko was making reference to recent vandalism of a section of the SGR in Mariakani.Tobiko said that four suspects have been apprehended and taken to court.

 “These acts are not only criminal but also constitute economic sabotage. Presently, four suspects have been apprehended and taken before the court.The police and other law enforcement agencies working together with a team of prosecutors are continuing with investigations in order to identify and apprehend all criminal cartels involved in these acts,” Tobiko said in a statement yesterday.

On Tuesday, a man was arrested in Kwale with equipment of the SGR.
