Speaking when he officially took office on Monday, Tobiko pledged to work relentlessly towards eradicating environmental contamination.

He said that his office will employ an extra effort towards the elimination of illegal logging, a habit that is reducing the nation's forest cover, hence reduced rainfall, leading to food insecurity.

''Loggers who do not comply with the directives on their logging licenses will have themselves prosecuted and their licenses revoked,'' he said.

The former Director of Criminal Investigation also vowed to further tighten the noose on Kenyans yet to comply with the plastic paper ban.

He ordered the National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) to carry out crackdowns in all possible places and nab those who are still in possession the product.

''NEMA must undertake a crackdown in markets, supermarkets and everywhere else and ensure that anyone still using the banned plastic papers is brought to book,'' he said.

Tobiko also cautioned his officials against incompetence in line with the newly introduced job guidelines, threatening to sack non-performing officers.

''I will introduce new working terms as we seek to improve this department and whoever is uncomfortable and feels that the weight is too heavy can simply ship out,'' said Tobiko
