Anxiety and curiosity gripped members of the public and businesspeople operating along Nkuruma road in Nakuru town when an unattended child dangled from a fifth floor window.
The child almost fell down as he hang on a window with one of his legs outside. It took brave and quick action by members of the public to rescue the three-year-old from meeting an untimely death. The rescuers went into the building to save the situation while others formed a human shield on the street in readiness to grab the boy in case he fell off.
Those who spoke to this writer said that the child’s mother who works as a hairdresser in the building had left him in the room to collect some items from a shop unaware of the danger she was exposing the kid to.
James Mbuthia, a second-hand dealer near the building said the mother, Agnes Mumbi was shocked when she came back to find her son, Fred Wainaina in the custody of furious wananchi. Those with the child threatened to have her arrested for allegedly neglecting a minor.
“She was very shocked and pleaded for mercy while thanking members of the public at the same time. She promised not to let the incident happen again,” said Mbuthia.
