Famous Kenyan settler Thomas (Tom) Cholmondeley was on Wednesday  confirmed dead at the MP Shah Hospital Nairobi after undergoing a hip operation.

Cholmondeley died at 46. 

He was the son of the 5th Lord Delamere, considered to be among the the very first and greatly influential British settlers in Kenya.

It will be remembered that in April 2005, Cholmondeley shot and killed a Kenya Wildlife Service  game ranger at his expansive Soysambo ranch in Naivasha.

The case was later dropped after he staged a defence that he did it in self defence.

He would then shoot and kill an alleged poacher in 2006.

On the 2006 case, he got acquitted of murder but was found guilty of manslaughter and sentenced to eight months in prison.
