According to political analysts, the number of young people likely to seek political seats in the 2022 polls will be high.
Here are ten top youthful politicians to watch ahead of the much awaited 2022 general election.
1. Babu Owino
He is the first time Embakasi MP elected in last year’s general election on ODM party ticket.
The former University of Nairobi student leader is known for his tough political stands and opinions.
Owino is a darling of young people and especially university and college students.
The ODM MP waded into controversy and was last year arrested, detained and charged when he allegedly called President Uhuru Kenyatta ‘mtoto wa mbwa’ ( a child of a dog).
Owino’s political future could take a different twist is the court of appeal dismisses an appeal he lodged challenging the High court ruling that nullified his election.
With a huge youth following, Owino will be among the youthful politicians to watch ahead of the 2022 polls.
2. Simba Arati
He is the Dagorreti North MP serving his second term.He was first elected in 2013 on ODM party ticket.
Arati is considered among most popular city politicians and a he is a close ally of ODM party leader Raila Odinga.
The Dagorreti North MP is known for his mobilisation skills and has often been relied on to mobilize supporters to attend Raila political rallies in the city.
Arati was recently endorsed of crowned as the Abagusii spokesperson.
3. Mohamed Ali
He is the Nyali MP elected in last year’s general election as an independent candidate.
He is considered ODM party leader close ally but felt out with the Orange party after last year’s nominations.
The former Investigative journalist also has massive support base comprising of youth and women.He is advocating for respect to human rights, rule of law and an end to drug abuse.
4. Majala Mlagui
She is the Taita Taveta deputy governor elected in last year’s general election alongside governor Granton Samboja.
Majala, 26 is the youngest deputy governor in the country.She is considered as resource mobilizer and a defender of women and marginalized groups rights.
The Taita Taveta deputy governor will certainly be among those to watch in 2022.
5. Linnet Mutua Mbula
She is the Makueni nominated Member of County Assembly.
Mbula is an ardent supporter of Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
She is vocal on matters electoral reforms and justice and recently criticized NASA leader Raila Odinga's move to meet with President Uhuru Kenyatta without consulting his co-principals.
Mbula claimed that Raila is the worst watermelon.
The nominated MCA is slowly getting huge audience and support across Ukambani.
6. Mutula Kilonzo Junior
He is the Makueni senator serving his second term in office.
He was elected on a Wiper party ticket in 2013 after the demise of his father Mutula Kilonzo.Mutula Junior is among vocal Kamba politicians who are backing Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s 2022 bid.
7. Senator Ledama Ole Kina He is the Narok senator serving his first term after being elected in last year’s polls on ODM party ticket.
Ole Kina is considered as Raila Odinga close Maa politician.
He has been vocal on matters electoral reforms and justice.
The senator is among top politicians in the Maa community Raila will be looking to in case he decides to bid for 2022.
8. Cleopa Malala
He is the Kakamega senator serving his first after being elected in last years polls on Amani National Congress (ANC) Party.
He is Raila Odinga’s close ally and has told off ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi over the push for reforms.
Malala alongside others leaders have been branded rebels in the Musalia led party.
9. Edwin Sifuna
He is the ODM Secretary General. He unsuccessfully contested for the Nairobi senate seat losing out to Johnson Sakaja of Jubilee party.
Sifuna has vowed to popularize the Orange Party ahead of the 2022 polls.
10. Alfred Keter
He is the Nandi Hills MP serving his second term.
His re-election was however nullified by the court on grounds that it was marred with massive irregularities.
The Jubilee MP is considered as Deputy President William Ruto’s critic.
