Top performers of the 2016 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCPE) are poised to study prestigious courses in university.
Of the 141 straight A grade candidates, 78 have been admitted to study medicine and surgery at the University of Nairobi (UoN), as reported by the Standard.
Joyce Kibugi, who topped the nation, is one of those admitted to the University of Nairobi.
Maina Bernard Mwangi, who was the second nationally, chose to study computer science at Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology (JKUAT).
For the first time, students who scored a strong A minus will also get a chance to study medicine. In previous years, the course was restricted to the best plain A grade performers.
Medicine, Architecture, Pharmacy, Engineering and economics are the most preffered courses by the top candidates.
Of the top A grade scorers, 102 will join University of Nairobi, 28 head to JKUAT, Moi and Kenyatta University will each admit seven.
Placements have been done by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Placement Services (KUCCPS).
