The Kenyan Government is responsible for creating employment opportunities for its people. However, the rate of unemployment in the country is very high. Many people lack jobs despite completing and passing their higher education.
Youths are the main group affected by low employment in the country. Many youths are unemployed thus result in criminal activities which get them jailed or even killed.
Here are major factors contributing to the high unemployment rate in the country:
CorruptionCorruption is a killer “diseases” in almost all sectors of life in the country. In Kenya, most people have always believed that you can’t find a job without connections. Tribalism and nepotism have gained ground in the country and unless you have something or well known, then be sure to have a job of looking for a job.
Low level of educationThe learning conditions in most of our Kenyans schools is very poor. More so, most Kenyans are very poor hence cannot afford school fees to continue learning. This has made many people miss out on job opportunities as no company will employ you if you don’t meet certain academic requirements.
Government offering contracts to foreign firmsKenyan firms are never considered when the government is offering contract jobs. Most people considered are the Chinese and other foreigners who will be managers while Kenyan graduates are found in construction sites or even construction industry as low-class people.
The emergence of non-certified collegesThere was a case of some colleges and universities which were not ISO-certified to provide Kenyans with formal education. Such universities and colleges were closed but still, many Kenyans graduated from them. Their certificates were declared null. They had to start afresh and even got fired from their jobs.
Poor industrial sectorThe industrialisation sector in Kenya is good. However, it doesn’t meet the demands of a large number of many Kenyans who have skills to offer in this sector. All the available industries were already filled by relatives of managers and prominent people. More industries should be developed to create more jobs for Kenyan youths.
