Despite calls for politicians to halt the debates and campaigns, majority are keen on getting ready for the 2022 polls that will be one of the country’s most competitive election.

As succession campaigns rages on, women have not been left behind with several actively engaging  in the debates.

According to political analysts, 2022 election is likely to attract more women political candidates.

Here are top eight  female  politicians to watch ahead of the 2022 polls.

1. Anne Waiguru.

She is the Kirinyaga governor elected in last year’s general election on Jubilee Party ticket. Waiguru is also among three women who were elected governor in last year’s polls.

The former Devolution Cabinet Secretary political star is steadily rising.There are claims that Mt Kenya region could front her to deputize Deputy President William Ruto in 2022.

2. Charity Ngilu.

She is the Kitui governor serving her first in office. Ngilu is also NARC party leader and among most experienced female politicians in the country.

She has declared support for Wiper party leader Kalonzo’s Musyoka’s 2022 presidential bid. Ngilu is known for political bravery and considered as a political schemer and strategist.

She was part of the politicians who ganged up to end retired President Daniel Arap Moi’s 24 year rule in 2002.

3. Joyce Laboso.

She is the Bomet Governor elected in last year’s general election on Jubilee party ticket. Laboso was among three women who were elected governor in last year’s election.

She served as Sotik Member of Parliament and National Assembly Deputy Speaker in last Parliament. Laboso will be among the women to watch in the 2022 succession politics.

4.  Aisha Jumwa.

She is among the most vocal female politicians in the country. Jumwa is serving as first time Malindi Township MP elected in last year’s polls on ODM party ticket.

In 2013, she was elected Kilifi woman representative on ODM party ticket. The Raila Odinga ally has since declared support for Deputy President William Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid.

6. Peris Tobiko.

She is the Kajiado East MP serving her first term on Jubilee Party ticket. She is among the Maasai community women politicians whose political star is steadily  rising.

Tobiko has been pushing for zero tolerance to Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and other decretory cultural practices that demean women.

7. Florence Mutua.

She is the Busia Woman representative serving her second term on ODM party ticket. She was among the politicians who were arrested and detained in police cells for five days in 2015 over incitement and hate speech commonly known as the ‘Pangani 6’.

Mutua, a close ally of ODM leader Raila Odinga, has been vocal advocating for electoral reforms and justice in the country.She has also been vocal on issues touching on women, youths and marginalized groups.

8. Rosa Buyu.

She is the Kisumu woman representative elected in last year’s general election on ODM party ticket. She is a close ally of Raila Odinga and has been vocal on matters affecting women and marginalized groups.
