19 top boarding schools will open day wings in January next year, 2018.

They include; Lenana School, St Georges, Nairobi School and Moi girls among others.

The intention is to maximise the utilisation of resources and avoiding a situation where admissions are informed by bed capacity.

Matiang'i revealed that the programme would also be introduced in other national schools while launching the Form One selection.

''We are engaging other stakeholders on how the programme will be implemented.'' Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang' said according to the Daily Nation.

Already a number of schools have been approached by the Ministry of Education to pilot the programme.

Even as the Ministry of Education pursues the introduction of day wings, there are concerns, for example, about the discipline of day scholars.
