Garissa top student in 2017 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination results Abdi Barre has revealed that hard work and determinations are the reasons behind his exemplary performance. In an interview with a local daily, Barre, 18 admitted that scoring a B+ was not easy considering his background. He also revealed that his parents were compelled to register as refugees at the Dadaab camp after they lost their livestock to drought decades ago. Barre also told the press that he lost her mother several years, which made his life tougher despite the grandmother taking care of him.The brilliant and eloquent students also took time to share a word of encouragement with other candidates in the nation saying that most of them look for excuses to justify their failure.“It was sheer determination that gave me hope to continue. There were low moments when I lost my mother and when I temporarily dropped out of school,” Abdi said. Al-Azar manager Ahmed Sambur revealed that the top student at one point was compelled to drop out of school because of life’s hardships before he came back to complete his studies.
