An IEBC official has been charged with tampering with President Uhuru Kenyatta’s votes during the just concluded repeat presidential elections.
The Presiding Officer was on Tuesday charged for wrongfully awarding President Uhuru Kenyatta’s votes to Independent Candidate Japheth Kaluyu.
Kiiri polling station PO John Kiguru was charged with the offence of making an entry contrary to the Elections Act where he awarded Prof Kaluyu 440 votes garnered by President Kenyatta.
Kiguru, however, did not take a plea after Senior Resident Magistrate Manuela Kinyanjui referred the matter to Murang'a court.
Mr. Kinyanjui noted that he transferred the case since it involved an electoral offence and the court had no jurisdiction over such matters.
"The file will be transferred to Murang'a law court, where there is an electoral court, for plea-taking and trial," the Magistrate stated.
The official was arrested on Monday after the Commission complained about the anomalies.
The error was one of the reasons why Kiharu Returning Officer Martin Malonza and Jubilee chief agent MP Alice Wahome engaged in a scuffle.
