The Jubilee Party could lose its National Elections Board chairman after it emerged he has pending disciplinary cases at the Law Society of Kenya.
Polka Wanyonyi was early this week appointed to head Jubilee’s elections board ahead of next month’s primaries.
Sources at the Jubilee headquarters have revealed that lawyer Wanyonyi could be out of the post, barely a week after his appointment.
Sources say Wanyonyi has been asked to tender his resignation as soon as possible.
Wanyonyi, according to a source at LSK, has two pending cases at the Advocates Disciplinary Tribunal.
Records obtained from the official LSK website indicate that Wanyonyi was under suspension in 2013 and 2014 before he was reinstated in the rolls of advocates in 2015.
The records for 2016 and 17 show that the lawyer was inactive in his practice.
The lawyer, however, has denied he is being pushed to resign from the position.
“I don’t think it is appropriate for me to discuss this issue over the phone and while I am in the middle of a meeting,” he told the Standard on Wednesday. The President Uhuru Kenyatta led party is also facing another headache as it has run out of the smart cards used to recruit members.
The lack of the cards has reportedly left the party sweating on how it will enroll more members just before the March 19 deadline to submit membership list to electoral body IEBC.
