A Senator allied to the Jubilee administration is among farmers who are yet to be paid their money after delivering maize to the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) last year.
Kipchumba Murkomen (Elgeyo Marwaket, Jubilee) said on Saturday that he is yet to receive his payment six months after delivered the staple to NCPB questioning the rationale of the delayed payment.
"Six months ago I delivered my maize to NCPB. Until now I have not been paid. From next year I won’t plant maize again," the Senate Majority Leader said in a tweet.
"I have no contract with anyone to feed him/her with Ugali. I am moving to avocados. It is time for the farmer in me to think profit first."
Farmers especially from Rift Valley have been complaining that they have not been paid ever since they delivered their cereal to NCPB.
They claim some of them have loans to clear in banks and other debts they incurred during last year's planting season. NCPB owes farmers over Sh4 billion for the deliveries they made in 2017 alone.
Maize farmers on Wednesday and Thursday hit out at the government over the delayed pay following revelations that close to Sh1.3 billion was paid to Rift Valley top politicians who delivered maize imported from Uganda to NCPB.
