[Photo|CGKK]Kakamega County schools produced a sterling performance in this year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCPE) producing the best pupil countrywide.Goldalyn Kakuya of St Annes Lubao Primary School scored 455 marks.She paid a courtesy call to Governor Wycliffe Oparanya and thanked her parents, her teachers and school management and other stakeholders in the school for supporting her through her academic journey. She called on all the other candidates who did not perform to their expectations to work harder in secondary education. Her dream is to study Psychiatry.Oparanya congratulated her and reminded residents that the fact that the County had led nationally in three consecutive years, was a clear indication that the county government was determined to raise the education standards in the county. He hailed Prof Laban Ayiro’s led education taskforce which came up with findings about what was ailing the sector in the county, as well as recommendations on what needed to be done to bridge the gap.Also present during the Wednesday meeting were Tracey Sakwa from Kakamega primary school who emerged top pupil in public schools in the County with 433 marks.
