Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu’s lawyer, Harrison Kinyanjui, has applied to cease acting as his lawyer.
Kinyanjui said he was withdrawing his legal services following a collapsed client–advocate relationship over
pending payment for the services in which he litigated 15 cases for Waititu.
He cited the controversial degree forgery case in which the former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo had sued Waititu claiming the degree from Punjab University in India was fake. The case, however, was dismissed in December 2016, with the court ordering Kabogo to pay Waititu Sh50 million as damages. In a petition filed on Tuesday before High Court judge John Mativo, Kinyanjui said he no longer wished to represent Waititu as his lawyer since he was using his own funds to progress the proceedings."He has not paid me and I am unable to proceed with representing him anymore. He never responds to my calls and I have to stop acting for him in about 15 other cases," the lawyer said in the application. The governor has a case that comes up for hearing on March 26, 2018.
