Three top lawyers in the country faced one another in a Nyamira senatorial debate which was hosted by Royal Media’s Egesa FM on Wednesday morning.
The seat has attracted at least five candidates who are battling to replace outgoing senator Mong’are Okong’o who has since joined governorship race.
Erick Mogeni of ODM, Nyambega Mose of Wiper and Joseph Kiangoi of Jubilee are all considered as front runners for the seat.
Mogeni, a former LSK chair is known within legal circles for standing in high profile constitutional cases similar to Mose, also a constitutional lawyer.
On his part, Kiangoi a conveyance lawyer is also the head of President Uhuru Kenyatta Nyamira campaigns and only defected from ODM recently.
Both Nyambega and Mogeni were on ballot in 2013 and they finished in third and second position respectively. Kiangoi was nominated to EALA by ODM party.
While Nyambega is banking on the larger Bogetutu clan given the voting dynamics in the region, Mogeni will be seeking fortunes of Omogirango clan and ODM party which is predominant in the region.
Among the issues the three senior lawyers addressed include corruption in the county government and legal gray areas that they thought should be fixed by the senate.
