Trans Nzoia governor Patrick Khaemba joined a host of young men and women in Kitale town in a cleanup exercise that is aimed to encourage responsible waste disposal.

They also installed modern waste bins across the town, as he encouraged the public to take a keen interest in keeping the environment clean, especially with regard to plastic waste.

''We are working on a more elaborate plan to ensure garbage collection is optimised and necessary laws enacted and enforced to prohibit irresponsible garbage disposal,'' he said, Sunday.

Speaking to the public after the exercise, the Ford Kenya governor, who is seeking re-election, indicated: "We also have new equipment that will augment our efforts in ensuring a cleaner Kitale and Trans Nzoia County as a whole. Let's support this cause and safeguard our environment, won't we?''
