Deputy President William Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid seems to have gained momentum with more leaders declaring support for him with the general elections over four years from now.
The latest to throw his weight behind Ruto's state house ambitions is Turkana governor Josphat Nanok.
This is a major boost to the DP keeping in mind that Nanok is an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) governor.
Speaking during the inaugural Eldoret City Marathon on Sunday, Nanok said he was fully behind DP’s ‘future plans’.
“As a region, we will walk together in the journey is ahead of us,” said Nanok in the apparent reference to the 2022 general elections amid cheers from hundreds of locals who had turned up to witness what is now the biggest marathon in the country.
“You know when I speak, the whole of Turkana has spoken,” he added.
This, however, does not come as a surprise as the governor has been warming up for the government side since he was reelected in the August 8 poll.
The support of governor Nanok is key for the DP even as he seeks to solidify his backyard, Rift Valley region, keeping in mind the possibility of facing off with the Baringo Senator Gideon Moi.
