Top ODM leaders in Nyamira County have held a series of meetings within and outside the county to prepare for the visit by party leader Raila Odinga.
The opposition chief will visit Nyamira County on Friday and hold talks with party officials, elected leaders, youths, women and his supporters on how to popularise the party within the region.
This is a move aimed at thwarting Jubilee’s efforts to take root in the county believed to be Cord’s stronghold.
The county which has all its members of Parliament from the Cord coalition - Charles Geni (North Mugirango), James Gesami (West Mugirango), Ben Momanyi (Borabu) and Timothy Bosire (Kitutu Masaba) who doubles up as the ODM national treasurer - have laid strategies to ensure that the 30% which Jubilee garnered in the 2013 general election will be reduced to 10%.
This barely comes after Jubilee’s efforts to open their offices in Nyamira town on June 6 aborted in its final stage. The launch has been pushed to a later date with no clear explanation to its members.
“You’ve proved that the promised land was in deed a desert. The Jubilee government has failed us, Come back home and let us support a coalition with people’s needs at heart to form the next government,” Dennis Marube, the youth chair urged Jubilee supporters on Tuesday at Kerenyo.
Thousands of Cord supports are expected to attend the rally as they welcome the opposition chief.
This is also a move to test the loyalty of some members who have become slippery of late in supporting and popularising the ODM party within the region, and who might have shown some interests of ditching the coalition.
