Wednesday was the day for forgiveness in Kenya with President Uhuru Kenyatta setting the reconciliation tone in motion. However, it is Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang who stole the show with his deeper apology to the President.

Two years ago, Kajwang was among the "firimbi movement" leaders who disrupted Uhuru's state of the nation address in Parliament.

At that time, there was a deeper political rivalry between Jubilee and the opposition. But after coming to his senses, the vocal senator expressed his regrets and asked for an apology from the head of state.

"This was a humbling statement by @UKenyatta in Parliament today. My conscience can now allow me to embrace the President. I also apologize for disrupting the President's State of the Nation Address two years ago," Kajwang tweeted.

Kajwang's statement comes after the President apologized to Kenyans he may have wronged during the divisive 2017 political campaigns, and the subsequent election pitting him and NASA leader Raila Odinga, who contested his August 8 win that was nullified by the Supreme Court before boycotting the October 26 poll.

Before Uhuru-Raila struck the deal to heal the country, the nation had been divided right at the center, something that was a threat to national cohesion.
