One of the world’s leading poaching investigators, Mr Esmond Bradley Martin was found dead on Sunday in his home in Karen, Nairobi.

The 75-year-old has been talking to traders and traffickers, investigating smuggling routes around the world, battling poaching and has authored many investigative reports on rhino and ivory smuggling in Kenya.

Nairobi DCI boss Ireri Kamwende who confirmed the incident said Mr Bradley was found stabbed to death in his house.

Mr Kamwende said they are yet to identify who killed Mr Bradley but said they have launched investigations and they are questioning those who are employed at the Karen house.

“We are yet to identify the suspects behind the attack. No one has been arrested but investigations into the incident are ongoing,” said the DCI boss.

Wildlife Direct Chief Executive Officer Paula Kahumbu hailed Mr Esmond for his contribution in the fight against poaching.

“Esmond was at the forefront of exposing the scale of ivory markets in USA, Congo, Nigeria, Angola, China, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Laos and recently Myanmar. He always collaborated with Save the Elephants and worked with many of us generously sharing his findings and views,” said Ms Kahumbu on twitter.
