The August 8 elections provided an opportunity for the country's big-name politicians to resurrect their political careers after spending some years in the political cold having failed in their bids during the previous elections.
Kisii Senator-elect Prof. Sam Ongeri is one of the biggest winners of the August 8 elections as he managed to make amends to his failed bid in 2013. And at 79 years, the veteran could be in his last stanza of his checkered political career.
After spending the last five years in the political cold, former Kacheliba MP Samuel Poghisio has resurrected his political career after clinching the West Pokot Senatorial seat, the former Cabinet Minister bagging the seat on a KANU ticket.
Joshua Kutuny who announced his arrival into the Kenyan political scene in 2007 after winning the Cherangany MP seat saw his political journey cut short when he was ousted by Wesley Korir in 2013. However, he managed to recapture the seat in 2017, thanks to the Jubilee wave that swept across the region.
Raphael Wanjala finally managed to end Ababu Namwamba's 10-year grip on Budalang'i politics when he ousted the former ODM stalwart during the August 8 poll.
Former Kipipiri MP Amos Kimunya, a man with checkered political career, bounced back into the political limelight after recapturing his seat which he lost in 2013.
After failing in her bid for Uasin Gishu Governor in 2013, former Higher Education Minister Prof Margaret Kamar finally made a comeback in 2017 when she won the county Senator position by a landslide.
Others include: former cabinet minister Njeru Ndwiga who is the new Embu Senator-elect, former Galole MP Dhado Godana who is now the Tana River Governor.
