A number of powerful politicians have been sent home in the past two weeks after courts delivered rulings on their election petition.
Some of the powerful leaders who have lost their seats include:
1. Homa Bay Governor Cyprian Awiti
On 20th February 2018, Judge Joseph Karanja ruled that the IEBC did not conduct the gubernatorial election in a free and fair manner thus annulling Awiti's victory and ordering a fresh election.
2. Embu Governor Martin Wambora
Judge William Musyoka annulled his victory on 22nd February 2018 citing irregularities. The Judge ordered the IEBC to set a date and conduct fresh elections.
3. Wajir Governor Mohamed Abdi
Judge Alfred Mabeya declared the victory of Mohamed Abdi as null and void on January 12th 2018. The Judge stated that since the Governor failed to produce the original academic papers, he was therefore not legally cleared to vie.
4. Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter
The vocal and controversial Jubilee Member of Parliament on 1st March 2018 lost his parliamentary seat.
Judge Kanyi Kimondo in an Eldoret court cited electoral illegalities and irregularities and campaigning outside the legally stipulated time as grounds to annul Keter's victory.
