A governor from Rift Valley on Thursday paid a visit to Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho with one message to the former Kisauni MP- that he drops his 2022 presidential bid to support Deputy President William Ruto.
Jackson Mandago visited Joho and the two held talks as the country gears yet for another election in which Kenyans will elect the country's fifth president.
It is not yet clear if the two discussed any other issues outside the 2022 presidency but a source close to Joho hinted that key in the agenda of the two leaders' meeting was to convince Joho to drop his 2022 presidential bid and support Ruto.
Interestingly, the meeting too place after Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi welcomed the deputy president to his county where Ruto was expected to distribute food to residents affected by the ongoing floods.
Joho has on several times said he will be at the ballot in 2022 and is confident of succeeding President Uhuru Kenyatta whose tenure at State House ends in about four years time.
Leaders from the Coast have consistently called for Kenyans from other regions to support a presidential candidate from the region whose economy wholly relies on tourism to grow.
"I want to tell our legislators that you have talked of supporting DP Ruto for the Presidency in 2022 but you have not asked him about his stand. Perhaps, he would also like to support a presidential candidate from the Coast," Joho said in Ruto's presence.
