Kisumu residents have accused top road construction company SBI of breeding mosquitoes in the area.
The residents noted that they were pleased after the government started the project to build a two-terminal road leading to the outcasts of the town, but are now worried of their safety.
According to them, the construction site is now a breeding area for mosquitoes following the rains that started late last month.
“The company has now made our place a mosquito breeding area. We don’t have peace at the moment. We are worried of contracting Malaria,”Jenifer Ogembo a resident of Kondele explained.
The company urged the locals to be patient as the rains have filled some of their work areas following excavations to construct the road.
“We shall be done in a short while. We urge the locals to be a little patient for we have no control over the rains. We are doing our best to ensure that we are done in a short while,” said Daniel Lwanga one of the Engineers at the site.
Lwanga noted that the company will try to drain stagnant water where possible.
The areas affected by the stagnant water include; Migosi, Ogolla and Mamboleo.
