Nasa leader Raila Odinga now claims that the military and the intelligent services has been drafted in, in a wider plot to rig the August 8 elections.
Odinga claims there have been several meetings aimed at helping Jubilee retain power.
However, in a rejoinder, the Jubilee administration has said the claims are farfetched, and that the meetings are normal operations aimed at delivering secure elections.
According to Odinga, the national secret service and the military have been involved in the rigging plans.
“Top officers of different security formations have had frequent consultations under the chairmanship of the former chief of staff Major Julius Karangi. Those who have attended these meetings include the commander of the Army, Commander of the Airforce, Commandant of the National Defendant and the Director of the CID,” said Odinga.
Odinga was accompanied by Musalia Mudavadi, and the two further claimed that currently the plan is being executed at the Embakasi training centre in Embakasi.
The Nasa leaders say the plan is similar to what happened in 2013, where he says such force was used to subvert the will of the people.
The Interior Ministry is however pushing back the claims, saying the meetings were normal routines in preparation for the elections.
“We are also in possession of information that further to the above activities, some of the military officers are being hosted in Kakamega, where they are being prepared to be recruited by the IEBC as polling officers for the election,” added Raila.
This is going to be another talking point in the run up to elections, with the opposition engaged in similar battles with the government in the last few weeks.
