On Tuesday, auctioneers visited the store and threatened to walk away with some of the products if Uchumi does not pay the rent arrears.

The auctioneers through their manager Paul Oketch explained that the tenants had failed to clear the rent after they reached an agreement two weeks ago.

"We were here two weeks ago and the management promised to settle the debt in 14 days to no avail." Oketch was quoted by The Nation.

The supermarket through its manager, however, wondered why the auctioneers had the premise adding that they had already sorted out the rent issue and had no pending arrears.

“As far as I am concerned, we don’t owe the landlord any money and our payment is up to date,”Mr Jeremiah Ominde the Branch Manger told The Nation.

The two parties later agreed to give the owner of the building and the supermarket more time to settle the matter.
