Light Academy, Mombasa was ranked position two nationwide in this year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), with a performance index of 68.6 points. The private school emerged top in the county after registering 28 candidates for the examinations, the Nation reports. Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Ali-Nahyan came second at the county level with a performing index of 59.08. The school, which registered 214 candidates, was ranked position 48 countrywide, beating giant schools across the entire nation. Abu Hureira Academy took the third position in Mombasa in this year’s KCSE examination.The school had a performing index of 56.56 after registering 53 candidates. Elsewhere, little known Sing’ore Girls in Elgeyo-Marakwet County beat national schools to emerge the top school in the 2017 KCSE examination results. The extra county school emerged top with a mean score of 69.9 points. Alliance Girls’ School (68.6 points), Kenya High School (68.2 points) and Loreto Girls Limuru (68.1 points) took the third, fourth and fifth position respectively.Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i said that the number of students who scored C+ and above in this year’s KCSE stood at 70,073 (11.38 percent) compared to last year’s 88,929 candidates (15.41 percent).“Overall, the number of candidates with minimum university entry qualification of Mean Grade C+ and above is 70,073 (11.38 percent) in the 2017 KCSE examination compared to 88,929 (15.41 percent) in 2016,” said Matiang’i while releasing the results on Wednesday.Is there a newsworthy accident, incident or event happening in Mombasa County that you want Hivisasa to cover?
