On Monday, academic officials at Odera Akang'o college campus sent away new students hoping to start their first semester.

According to reports, over 300 students who were accepted into the Moi University campus in Siaya county were told to report to the main campus.

This came after the university failed to meet the guidelines set by Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service.

"We are stranded here. Nobody, not even the dean of students, has give the reason for the inconvenience," said first-year student Martin Ombima as quoted by The Star.

Earlier this year Education CS Fred Matiang'i paid a visit to the institution and guaranteed that the school would not be closed due to lack of land. Instead he said that the institution would be given a 50 acre portion of land owned by Kenya Broadcasting Corporation.

He further stated that the land would help in the college's development with infrastructure so that it complies with the Commission for University Education guidelines.

"Odera Akang'o campus will not be phased out. As the Education CS, this is my word. Treat what you have been hearing as rumors," the CS said.
