Nakuru county Roads executive Joel Maina expressed disappointment after angry protestors at Salgaa trading centre torched the county’s fire-fighting equipment worth Sh40 million.
While briefing journalists at his Nakuru office on Wednesday, Mr Maina called for quick investigations into the chaos.
The executive alleges that the action by angry protestors to torch the county’s fire engine happened as a result of incitement.
“We are calling on the police to expedite investigations into the Salgaa chaos and take appropriate action,” he said.
Mr Maina said that the county is now in a crisis after the destruction of the equipment.
“It was wrong for the protestors to torch the fire engine that is meant to give citizens services when disasters strike,” he said.
The executive said that the torched fire engine was badly destroyed and cannot stand repairs.
County secretary John Motari also condemned the chaos, saying that it has painted Nakuru negatively.
He appealed to residents to use the right channels and seek dialogue with the government on issues.
“Such acts should be condemned strongly, we are living in a civilised country where citizens should feel free to register their grievances instead of resulting into violence.
