The new deal will put him into the upper tier of Tottenham’s wage structure with the likes of Heung Ming son, Lucas Moura and represents a show of faith in his abilities at a time of uncertainty.

The 26-year-old defensive midfielder joined Tottenham from Southampton in the summer of 2016 and is currently on a deal with the London side until June 2021 earning a £70k weekly wage.

Wanyama has made 21 appearances for Spurs in all competitions coming off the bench nine times and is highly valued by Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino who is eager to ensure the midfielder gets back to his best form.

Wanyama has been linked with a move away after failing to earn a Premier League Spot in the starting eleven, with Spurs coach preferring to field Eric Dier and Dembele ahead of the midfielder.

Liverpool and Manchester United are monitoring Wanyama's contract situation with and will battle out for his signature if the talks fail.

Wanyama will be hoping to use these interests from other clubs as a leverage for better Contract terms.
