Parliament is facing a looming showdown between the government and Opposition over regulation of the gambling industry.
The two sides have separate Bills that they both want adopted by the House.
ODM Member of Parliament and Sponsor of the Betting Control Amendment Bill Jakoyo Midiwo has said he will not stand to see Jubilee come up with other plans (the draft Gambling Bill and Regulations) contradicting what is in his document.
He said that he can only allow sections from the new document to enrich his own as opposed to having another full document adopted.
“This is a party (ODM) sponsored Bill and there is no way the government will be allowed to sneak in its Bill and take over our initiative,” he said.
The Bill by Midiwo was tabled in Parliament some two weeks ago and is presently before the Labour committee where it is expected to be subjected to stakeholder involvement.
Both these Bills seek to introduce regulation measures on the betting and gambling industry said to be raking in billions of shillings monthly.
