The president Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto-led party is conducing nominations in Ruto's home ground, Uasin Gishu county, neighbouring Nandi, Elgeyo Marakwet, and Baringo counties.
Tight competition is expected in the mentioned North Rift counties, today, Friday, following close rivalry between competitors, especially for the governorship race.
In Uasin Gishu county, incumbent governor Jackson Mandago faces tough rivalry from wealthy businessman Bundotich Zedekia Kiprotich, alias Buzeki.
Critics say Buzeki's name is well known in the county due to various businesses he has been engaging in, therefore would likely give Mandago, a run for his money.
In Nandi county, incumbent governor Dr Cleophas Lagat faces competition from former Industrialisation Cabinet Minister Henry Kosgey and Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary Felix Koskei.
In Baringo, governor Benjamin Cheboi will also be seeking to defend his Jubilee nomination, against Koibatek branch Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) chairman Stanley Kiptis.
In Kericho, governor Paul Chepkwony battles it out for the ticket, with Ainamoi MP Benjamin Lang’at and Fred Kirui.
Jubilee nominations, are also being held in Kirinyaga, Meru, Laikipia, Murang'a, Tharaka Nithi, Kiambu, Nyandarau, Embu, West Pokot, Nandi, Nakuru and Nyeri counties.
Other areas include: Nairobi, Kajiado, Narok, Trans-Nzoia and Taita Taveta counties.
In Laikipia, former Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary Thuita Mwangi seeks to oust governor Joshua Irungu.
In Nyandarua, governor Daniel Waithaka faces rivalry from former Head of Public Service and Secretary to the Cabinet, Francis Kimemia.
