The Kwale Senatorial race has taken a different twist after more candidates declared interest in the seat ahead of the August 8 elections.

Ibrahim Bulushi, who is the former Umma University dean of students, is the ninth candidate to join the race to replace the late Senator Boy Juma Boy. Boy’s younger brother, Issah Juma, has also said he will contest for the seat in August. Speaking in Diani on Thursday, Bulushi said that the senatorial post in the county has not been reserved for a specific family, adding that anyone can contest for the same."The seat is not a preserve of one family. The idea of leadership inheritance does not apply here," he said, as quoted by The Star. Bulushi also warned Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) top leadership and Boy’s family against imposing leaders on the people ahead of the next general election. "Locals have the right to elect whoever they want. It is not upon a family to bring us a person and say he is the one who will lead us," he added. Other aspirants fighting to replace Boy Juma are Japheth Muthoka, Hassan Mzinga, Stanley Matano, Mshenga Ruga, Nicholas Zani, Abdallah Ngozi and Ginorah Otongo.
