The Director of the Miss Tourism Kenya, Alice Kamunga said that they were to introduce the male participants this year but were restrained by finances

“There has been a tremendous achievement especially in growing local talent in the various Miss Tourism participants and we will introduce the male category so as to avoid sidelining the boy child,” she said during an interview on Thursday at Court Yard hotel.

Kamunga said that many of the male models have already expressed interest in the competition.

“We were to start the male category though financial constraints were a challenge but next year we shall introduce it,” said Kamunga.

She said they are interested in empowering the youths to make them economically stable and independent.

“We are interested in giving morale to our young people. We take 21 years old and above who are residents of that county by birth or have lived in the area for at least 10years,’ added Kamunga.

The 47 participants drawn from each county were heading to their final competition at Vihiga County where finals shall be on June 19 though they will be in the academy from June 15.
