Kenya Utalii College- KUC has partnered with the Tourism Federation to launch a security management course to sensitize its staff on security matters following threats posed by terror groups. Speaking in Nakuru during a graduation ceremony for Central Rift Players in the Hospitality industry who underwent a refresher course, KUC acting Deputy Principal Charles Gitonga said that it was important to equip staff with relevant security tips so as to enable them protect themselves in case of any eventuality.
Gitonga added that the college has received a lot of co-operation from other government agencies in order to ensure the course becomes a success. “A total of 164 students have graduated after completing a two weeks course whose basis was to sharpen their skills.” He said. He called on the graduands to use the skills they have acquired to enhance their output in the course of their duties.
Nakuru County Director for Co-operatives Patrick Makanyanga who represented the acting County Executive for Trade and Tourism Anne Njenga during the event said the county government of Nakuru aims at creating an enabling environment for the hospitality industry. She said that some of the initiatives include infrastructure improvement and collaboration with security agencies to boost security. Existing statistics indicate that the hospitality industry employs over 400,000 people out of whom 70% lack any formal training across the country.
