Tourism stakeholders in the Coast region have exuded confidence that domestic tourism would boost the sector until the tourism season which begins in April.Speaking at the Travellers Beach Hotel in Bamburi on Thursday, the hotel’s general manager Mr Fred Kiuru said tourism stakeholders are working on ensuring the stability of the sector throughout the year.Kiuru said dependence on the three tourism seasons of April, August and December at times affects the sector, adding that more strategies should be employed to overcome the economic challenges in the sector. He said a roundtable meeting of all tourism stakeholders in Mombasa was much needed to ensure tourism in the coastal city remains stable even during the low season.“We have implemented special packages for local tourists so that we get at least an average bed occupancy throughout the year,” said Kiuru.Kiuru said stakeholders will carry on with their marketing plans aimed at wooing domestic tourists in their hotels, adding that the Travellers Beach Hotel was carrying on with its campaign to reducing charges for domestic tourists across the country. He said with a clean environment, improved infrastructure and security in Mombasa and other parts of the Coast region, both domestic and foreign tourists will flock the region throughout the year.During the festive season, the hotel industry at the Coast boasted of over 90 percent bookings throughout the month of December. Is there a newsworthy accident, incident or event happening in Mombasa County that you want Hivisasa to cover?
